SETA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021 We would like to inform you of the changes for being selected for a Nationals franchise in 2021. In previous years, there have been talent ID days, discovery days, trials and ring-fencing of previous teams. This year, we aim to take a positive step forward to improving communication to players, coaches and clubs, and ensure we make player focused decisions to strengthen the entire region. Our ambition as a region: Improve the quality of coaching, players and club experience across the whole region. Develop a ‘best in class’ junior pathway through the club system and coach mentoring. Provide a system that supports the best chance for an all-South-East final at Opens category. Consistently support winning franchises at all age groups. In order to do this, the region is looking to develop system changes, and recruit new roles so that we introduce more collaboration and a strategic time investment into the game, as well as invest sponsorship revenue to build the future generation of players. 2021 SETA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS Run in collaboration with In2Touch , this is two 1-day competitions 1 week apart, where players play in their club team in single gender competition (as Nationals is primarily single gender). All players wanting to play for a regional franchise should play in the SETA club championship. If your club cannot field a Men’s or a Women’s team, please communicate with other clubs in the area that may be in a similar position, and combine your teams for entry. In the future, we hope development work will help strengthen the club base and players to ensure each club has the best chance to enter and compete independently. There will be a Cup, and Plate and a Bowl competition. Clubs can choose their preference of where they see their team being placed for an appropriate competition, however if the selection committee deems appropriate, some clubs may be asked to move up or down. The intention is to facilitate as many closely contested games as possible. This will allow for more enjoyable contests, and coaches can see players play at an appropriate level, so if players are competing in the plate or bowl, there is still an appropriate opportunity to be selected for a Nationals franchise. All regional coaches will be asked to attend the day, and select their squads from the club competition. CLUB COACHES Club coaches will be asked when filling out team sheets to check off which players are intending to be in consideration for which teams. This will provide a list to the appropriate regional coaches so that they can come and watch specific players for the relevant category. Please communicate with your players to understand their aspirations and what teams they would like to be considered for. OPENS The goal is to have the 2 strongest franchises in the country. Therefore coaches will be working collaboratively to ensure that: New players are discussed and selected into the appropriate franchise for their development and balance regional strength Consistency is facilitated year on year in order for coaches to build long term plans and success. Just because you played in previous years, does not guarantee entry in subsequent years Players have to continue to develop and improve year on year to remain playing in the Opens franchises. New players will enter the Player Pool, where coaches identify the top 50 players in both genders as they see it, within the South East. Players who make the player pool and have previous representation for a franchise will be nominated for the squads (unless not selected in the 1st wave) they have previously played in. The coaches will then work together to select new players into the squads. The Mixed Open will comprise of those who just miss out on single gender squad selection, and will look to develop the next wave of talent for future success. JUNIORS As the junior game is not as large as the adult game, there will be draft competitions at 3 age groups. For 2021 we will only be running this on the 5th June, there will be no Juniors at the first Club Competition on the 29th May. U11 (TBC may be U12) U15 U18 Players should enter the competition as individuals, and coaches from clubs with age-groups are urged to come forward to support running coaching and leading teams on the days of the competition. If a club wants to have an U18 player in their team, they should email performance@seta.org.uk to request an exemption with written confirmation from the club coach, parent and player. Please refer to our junior player policy here We are looking to have a strong junior competition to improve junior competition and growth into opens. SENIORS AND MASTERS Seniors and masters players should play with their club team in the club competition – like an NTS or MWTC. Playing in the plate or the bowl will not hinder your opportunity to be selected. Our coaches will be roaming around the club competitions to ensure they watch all players in action to select squads. CLUBS & REFEREES ALL Clubs are required to provide player/referees. The ‘ideal’ ratio will be 1.5 per team entered. This is in accordance with the recent announcement from Robin Budd that this will be a requirement at Nationals by all regions. WEBINAR SESSION There will be a webinar held for 1 representative from each club to attend and ask questions regarding the day and entry. This will be on the 1st May at 20:00. Club nominees are asked to contact all the members of their clubs to collate any questions they may have. Please put your Club nominated representatives details here. ENTRY How to enter the SETA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS Fill in the entry form here Deadline is: 7th May for payment and entry form In the meantime, if you have any further questions please email: performance@seta.org.uk or ask your club representative to contact us through the SETA Clubs WhatsApp group. Many thanks Performance Team Published 21.04.2021
